WELCOME CLASS OF 2009-2010
Dear parents and students,
I am Mrs. Valladarez, and this year I will be teaching 7th grade World History, Medieval and Early Modern Times and a block of DRWC level I, English Intervention class. These classes will be held in room 36.
As your child’s teacher, my job is to enable my students to meet the challenges ahead with confidence and competence. It is for this reason that I am informing you of what’s expected of your child throughout this school year. In addition, the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND LAW mandates teachers and school districts to expose students, no matter their disability and current grade level of performance, to grade level standards, and school’s adapted curriculum. Therefore, we will meet this challenge “together” with great confidence and effort this year.
The several areas of focus this year are to develop the necessary organizational and study skills for your child to learn to become responsible and successful in school whether it pertains to academics or school behavior standards. Second, in order to help expand your child’s present academic skills, we need to establish and maintain an on going positive communication among parent, student, and teacher. This will be done in a written form throughout our school agenda or via email. Please sign next to teacher’s comments to assure that you have read and understood what is going on with your child for that particular class, including homeroom. I will be checking student’s agenda periodically to see that every student is writing their assignments down as expected and to see if you, the parent, have signed the agenda everyday. By you signing the agenda, it will verify that you know your child has done the homework from each class.
Every student is expected to bring signed paper work and homework in a timely manner; the due dates will be announced in class and posted on my webpage. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure to return all homework, classwork and forms filled out back to the teacher on time. Every reporting period or every 5 weeks, I will generate a grade report for you to sign and send back to me with your child by the next school day. You will also have access to your child’s grade on my webpage. This will keep you inform of your child’s academic performance in class. In this report, you will be able to see what your child has missed and the current grade for each assignment submitted. This will include the grade for each classwork, homework, assessment and project. There will be no make up for any assignments/homeworks. Such accommodations will only be made if student is extremely sick or if parent calls in to request an extension on the assignment due to a family hardship. Also, necessary accommodations and modifications will be applicable for those students possessing an IEP, 504 plans, and SSTs.
I would like to close this brief introductory letter by saying that: “Education is a team effort on the part of all three partners – student, parents, and teacher.” Your child’s academic success depends on a commitment and involvement by each participant, and I, as a teacher, am looking forward to meeting this commitment with you.
